Traumatic Brain Injury
There are few challenges more difficult to a parent than facing a traumatic brain injury (TBI) of a child. Once your child is medically stable and early rehabilitation is complete, the next difficult challenge is transitioning back to a school environment. Many parents and teachers have little idea what to expect, and they may misinterpret some of the problems in the early stages of recovery.
The Pratt Center is staffed with experienced professionals who can assist you in determining your child's needs, creating a special education plan and monitoring the success of this plan as your child recovers. We also can assist with safety issues, adjustment to school and behavioral changes in your child. For example, we can help you:
- Prepare your child for questions from schoolmates
- Determine your child's awareness of dangers in the environment
- Help your child adjust to any new physical limitations
- Understand forgetfulness, disorganization and irritability
- Recognize physical and emotional factors that affect your child's work
- Ensure accurate assessment of your child's academic abilities
If your child has had a traumatic brain injury, a neuropsychological evaluation can examine the impact this has had on his or her functioning. If you have questions about evaluations, please e-mail us at info@prattcenter.com.
